Runaway by Harlan Coben (2026)

By Harlan Coben • Thriller • Netflix
Watched/Read: Jan 2026

Having watched all of Harlan Coben’s Netflix adaptations from the very start, the last few having become fairly predictable, this one was finally amazing again. With James Nesbitt in a well-deserved leading role, Runaway really grips you to your seat and keeps you guessing until the very end. Twist after twist, combined with amazing performances from the entire cast, made it a pleasure to watch. Looking back once all the puzzle pieces fall into place, you can clearly see the hints sprinkled throughout from the very first episode, and there was never a second of downtime.

After a lot of thought, I’d definitely say this is my favourite Harlan Coben adaptation so far, certainly from the British productions. After so many, you come to expect the same actors and locations to pop up, so it was fun seeing the Green’s house again after Stay Close (this time belonging to a Simon instead of Stewart Green).

While there were definitely repeating tropes from previous adaptations, and a standard framework of a main mystery with subplots that all tie together at the end, the killer couple crossing people off the list, and a detective coming close yet not too close, it was a fresh entry where the majority of twists were more unexpected than predictable.

Overall, a great New Year’s watch, gripping and perfect for both Coben fans and thriller enthusiasts alike.
